The Taliban have announced the arrest of a member of the former government’s public uprising forces in Faryab Province on charges of possessing weapons and military equipment.
The Taliban’s police command in Faryab said in a statement published on its Facebook page on Monday, 18 May, that the individual is named Shah Mohammad and is a resident of the “Baluch Shah Nader” village in Pashtunkot district.
According to the statement, the arrested individual had served as the commander of two “Arbaki” checkpoints in the area during the former republic government.
The Taliban added that he was arrested on Thursday evening by the group’s fighters.
They also claimed that light and heavy weapons, military uniforms, communication devices, and some other military equipment were seized from him.
This comes as numerous reports have been published in the media about the arrest, torture, and killing of former military personnel and public uprising forces by the Taliban.
