Summary

Under a new directive, the Taliban authorities have ordered their civilian, military, and judicial employees to refrain from using camera-equipped mobile phones and smartphones.

According to a letter issued in this regard, the decision will come into effect nationwide six days after the beginning of the next lunar month. Once implemented, no employee affiliated with the Taliban administration will be permitted to use a camera-equipped mobile phone.

The directive further warns employees that failure to comply with the order will result in disciplinary action and penalties.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that, following instructions from Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the collection and destruction of camera-equipped mobile phones and smartphones has already begun in a number of civilian and military institutions.

So far, the Taliban have not released further details regarding the implementation of the decision or the objectives behind it.
