Local sources in Panjshir province report that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has closed sewing training workshops for women in the Rukh district of the province.

According to the sources, these workshops were launched by the World Food Program to teach women the sewing profession and strengthen family economies.

The sources added that Taliban officials claimed the purpose of such programs, created by foreign organizations, is not to support women but rather to “unveil women.”

Based on the sources’ information, the World Food Program had established two sewing workshops in Rukh district, where over 50 women were learning the profession.

Since their return to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have imposed widespread restrictions on women’s education and employment.

The group has previously shut down professional training workshops for women in several provinces.
