According to reliable sources speaking to the media, tensions have escalated among Taliban members in Badakhshan province, and the likelihood of an internal armed confrontation within the group has increased. The reports indicate that Juma Fatih, a dissatisfied commander and former deputy governor of the group in Zabul, has been labeled a “rebel” by the Taliban leadership, and an order has been issued for his suppression.
In Taliban terminology, the term “rebel” is used to describe dissenters and insubordinate members within the group, and in previous years, some disaffected fighters have similarly been targeted for removal from positions of power under this designation. Sources say this approach has a precedent in handling internal disputes.
Sources affiliated with the Taliban also report that several rounds of talks have been held between Juma Fatih and senior Taliban officials, including Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Chief of Army Staff of the Taliban, but these negotiations have failed and reached an impasse.
According to the reports, Juma Fatih has refused to comply with certain directives from senior Taliban leadership, particularly Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, due to ongoing disagreements. At the same time, relying on forces and equipment under his command, he is described as posing a serious challenge to the group’s central leadership.
