The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration, part of the Department of Energy, has announced that all remaining highly enriched uranium from Venezuela has been transferred to the United States. According to U.S. officials, this 13.5 kilograms of uranium was extracted from an old research reactor in Venezuela and transported to the U.S. via both sea and land routes.
According to available information, the operation was carried out in coordination with the United States, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. U.S. officials say the move is considered important for reducing the risk of nuclear terrorism and strengthening global security.
Reports add that the transferred uranium has now arrived at the Savannah River facility in the U.S., where it will undergo technical processing and be reused.
