Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has said that he will soon declare the Strait of Hormuz part of U.S. territory.
Speaking at a gathering in Nassau County, New York, on Friday, Trump said: “In the near future, I will declare the Strait of Hormuz U.S. territory.”
He also addressed the possibility of rising oil prices, saying that if Americans are forced to pay more for oil, he would not apologize. Trump added that, in his view, Iran should not have access to nuclear weapons.
Trump also referred to the upcoming presidential election, saying that another person would be elected in two and a half years. However, he urged people to remember that “Trump is the one who made this happen.”
Meanwhile, Valiollah Beyati, spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s Commission on Councils, rejected remarks by U.S. officials concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the naval blockade of Iran’s southern ports.
Beyati said that the “empty talk” of U.S. officials has recently become a daily occurrence. He questioned how a country with thousands of kilometers of borders and coastline to the north and south could be blockaded.
The Iranian parliamentary official added that Tehran has demonstrated in recent months its ability to respond to any “hostile action” by the United States.
He warned that Iran’s patience is limited and said that the Iranian people would not allow Trump’s “fantasies” to become reality, promising an “appropriate and crushing response” to any U.S. actions.
