Summary

U.S. President Donald Trump says that Iran’s naval blockade will be lifted immediately, and ships that have been stranded because of the blockade can begin their journey home.

In a post on Truth Social this afternoon (Friday, 29 May), the U.S. president also wrote that he would be holding a meeting in the White House Situation Room to make a final decision regarding an agreement with Iran.

He said that Iran must agree never, ever to obtain a nuclear weapon or nuclear bomb, and that the Strait of Hormuz must be immediately reopened to the free passage of ships in both directions without any tolls or fees.

Trump also stated that Iran must remove or detonate all remaining naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that Iran’s enriched uranium, or “nuclear dust,” which was buried deep underground and beneath mountains as a result of U.S. attacks, would be excavated and destroyed by the United States in full coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The U.S. president continued: “Until further notice, no money will change hands.”

He further added that “agreement has also been reached on other issues, which are of much lesser importance.”

Iranian officials have not yet responded to Trump’s latest remarks.

Iran has described the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade as one of the preconditions for an agreement with the United States, but has said that the country’s nuclear program is not on the agenda of the negotiations.
