In its latest report, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) stated that cases of killings, arbitrary arrests, and torture against former government officials and security forces in Afghanistan are still ongoing.
According to the report published on July 28, at least 8 documented cases of killings of former military personnel were recorded between April 1 and June 30, 2026.
The report adds that during the same period, 29 arbitrary arrests and 5 cases of torture involving former soldiers were also documented.
UNAMA warned that former Afghan soldiers forcibly deported from neighboring countries face serious security threats. According to the report, a former soldier deported from Iran to Herat province disappeared following his return.
