Turkish media outlets have reported that nearly one trillion Turkish lira was deposited into the bank account of Ahmad Jahangard Taghalu, an Azerbaijani citizen residing in the city of Van, Türkiye.
According to the reports, the funds were transferred from an unidentified account to his personal bank account, after which the bank froze the account.
The deposited amount was reported to be 999 billion, 999 million, 999 thousand, 999 lira and 99 kuruş, equivalent to approximately $21.8 billion.
Reports noted that such a substantial sum could have placed him among the world’s wealthiest individuals. However, due to the account being frozen, he is currently unable to access the funds.
Turkish television network NTV reported that the Azerbaijani citizen first became aware of the situation while making a purchase at a store in Van, when his bank card failed to process the transaction. Upon visiting a bank branch, he was reportedly surprised to discover the unusually large balance in his account.
Ahmad Jahangard Taghalu stated that after the balance was identified, bank employees informed senior management, and the account was subsequently frozen by authorities responsible for investigating financial crimes.
He added that the incident drew significant attention and surprise among bank staff, who immediately began reviewing the matter.
Taghalu was born in the Republic of Azerbaijan and has been living in the Turkish city of Van for approximately ten years.
