Summary

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services have been rehabilitated in 28 health and nutrition facilities across the provinces of Paktia and Daikundi, with these facilities also being equipped with solar energy systems.

In a report released on Friday, 15 Jawza, UNICEF stated that access to clean water and safe healthcare services at medical facilities plays a critical role in improving the quality of healthcare delivery and treatment outcomes for communities.

According to the report, the project was implemented with financial support from the United Kingdom government and aimed to strengthen water, sanitation, and hygiene services in health and nutrition centers.

UNICEF further noted that the integration of solar energy systems in these facilities not only ensures a reliable and sustainable power supply but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while promoting the sustainable management and protection of groundwater resources.

The organization emphasized that access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities is a fundamental requirement for the effective delivery of healthcare services, particularly in remote areas of Afghanistan, where children and families are among the most vulnerable and dependent on such support.

UNICEF stated that improving water and sanitation infrastructure in healthcare facilities can play a significant role in enhancing public health outcomes and reducing the risk of disease transmission within local communities.
