Summary

The United Front, led by General Sami Sadat, has claimed responsibility for killing one of the alleged perpetrators of the murder of Nigar, a former Afghan National Police officer, in Firozkoh, the capital of Ghor province.

In a statement released on Sunday evening (August 2), the group said the individual killed was a member of the Taliban who, according to the Front, had murdered Nigar four years ago in front of her family inside her home while she was pregnant.

Nigar was shot dead in Firozkoh on September 4, 2021, shortly after the Taliban returned to power. At the time, her family said the attackers had identified themselves as Taliban members. However, the Taliban did not provide an official explanation regarding the incident.

The United Front described the operation as part of its efforts to hold those responsible for Nigar’s killing accountable. Although the Taliban announced a “general amnesty” after taking power, numerous reports have emerged in recent years alleging targeted and unexplained killings of former security personnel from the previous Afghan government. International human rights organizations have also expressed concern over these reports.

Four days ago, the United Front announced the launch of its armed operations in Afghanistan, stating that its campaign had begun in Kandahar province. The group was established in 2023 and had previously focused primarily on political activities.
