The United Nations Human Settlements Programme says that the city of Gardez, the capital of Paktia province, has tripled in size since 2004.
In a message on Thursday, April 9, it added that if this expansion is guided by smart urban planning and investment, it could lead to healthier homes and better living conditions for all.
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme emphasizes the creation of efficient cities for everyone. The programme had previously stated that cities such as Mazar-i-Sharif, Firuz Koh, Herat, and several other cities have grown several times larger over the past 20 years.
