FIFA has announced that it has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish Football Federation. This action follows reports of Islamophobic and discriminatory chants by some Spanish supporters during a friendly match. The incident took place on March 31st at the RCDE Stadium, located near Barcelona, where the match between the national teams of Spain and Egypt was held.
During the match, some Spanish fans chanted “Whoever does not shout, is a Muslim,” a slogan that gained widespread attention in the media and on social networks. The game was part of the World Cup preparatory matches and ended in a 0-0 draw.
FIFA has confirmed in an official statement that it is taking the investigation of this incident seriously, and disciplinary proceedings have been launched.
Meanwhile, Spanish police have also begun their own separate investigation into the chants and are working to identify those responsible for the incident.
In response, Spain’s national team player Lamine Yamal described the chants on his Instagram as “disrespectful and unacceptable,” calling for serious action to be taken against such behavior. His comments have sparked significant reactions in the media and on social networks, once again highlighting the issue of discrimination in sports.
Additionally, the Egyptian Football Federation issued a statement calling this behavior “completely unacceptable and a form of racial hatred.” The federation emphasized that such actions should not affect the professional relationship between the Spanish and Egyptian football federations.
