Abdul Ahad Mohmand, Afghanistan’s first astronaut and the first person to hear the Pashto language in space, has passed away due to cancer in a hospital in Germany.
According to his family and close sources, he had been battling the disease for a long time, but ultimately died in a German hospital.
Abdul Ahad Mohmand is considered one of the most important figures in Afghanistan’s space history. In 1988, he traveled to space as part of a Soviet space mission, becoming the first Afghan astronaut. During that mission, he spent several days in space and brought Afghanistan’s name into major global space programs.
Mohmand had been residing in Germany in the final years of his life and was undergoing medical treatment due to health complications.
