Afghan and Kazakh Universities Sign Agreement to Establish Joint Education and Research Center in Kabul
Universities from Afghanistan and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement to establish a joint education and research center in Kabul focused on water resource management, irrigation, and sustainable agriculture.
According to The Astana Times, the agreement was signed on June 22. Under the agreement, the center will be established at Kabul University. Its primary objectives include training specialists, facilitating knowledge exchange, conducting joint research, and promoting innovative solutions in the fields of water management and agriculture.
As part of this collaboration, educational programs and scientific support for the center will be provided by Kazakh researchers and experts, with the aim of strengthening professional expertise and technical capacity in these sectors.
The report states that the agreement was signed between the Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation, the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, and Kabul University during a visit to Afghanistan by a Kazakh delegation led by Serik Zhumangarin, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy.
Speaking at the Afghanistan–Kazakhstan Business Forum in Kabul, Zhumangarin emphasized his country’s strong commitment to water diplomacy, the efficient use of water resources, and the expansion of regional cooperation in the sector.
Under the initiative, the joint education and research center will serve as a platform for cooperation among universities in the areas of water security, sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation, environmental monitoring, and food security.
Founded in 1932, Kabul University is one of Afghanistan’s oldest and largest public universities. It currently comprises 22 faculties offering a wide range of academic and professional disciplines.
