The Taliban, after demolishing the “Arch of Salvation” in Kabul, have now begun the destruction of a well-known cricket stadium in Helmand province. Local sources say the action is being carried out under the direct order of the Taliban leader, and that a large mosque or Eidgah is planned to be built in place of the stadium.
According to reports, the cricket stadium is located in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, and for years had been considered one of the most important centers for youth sports activities. Athletes and local residents say the stadium was not merely a playing field, but also a place for healthy recreation and the development of the talents of hundreds of young people.
Several sports organizations and young athletes in Helmand have protested the decision, warning that the destruction of sports facilities could negatively affect the future of cricket in Afghanistan. They emphasized that Afghanistan has made remarkable progress in international cricket in recent years, and that demolishing stadiums creates disappointment and discouragement among the younger generation.
