Amrullah Saleh, former vice president of the ousted republic system, has said that if Afghanistan today had a credible and national government, the country’s first astronaut, Abdul Ahad Momand, would have been laid to rest as a national hero in an official ceremony with special honors.
In a post published on the social media platform X, Saleh stated that Abdul Ahad Momand was a figure who carried Afghanistan’s name from Earth to space, but in recent years, no opportunity was created to transfer his scientific experience, knowledge, and achievements to the country’s younger generation.
He criticized the current political situation in Afghanistan, saying that the Taliban’s rule lacks national legitimacy and is incapable of fostering unity, trust, and confidence among the people.
According to Saleh, under such conditions, Afghanistan’s major scientific and national figures lose their rightful and proper status, and even after their death, they are not accorded the respect that their services and stature deserve.
