Summary

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned on Thursday in a message posted on X that Oman must understand the U.S. government will “aggressively” target any party involved in facilitating the collection of tolls for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that any partner or party participating in efforts to implement a toll collection system in the Strait of Hormuz would face punishment and sanctions.

The threat came one day after Donald Trump emphasized the need for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following an agreement with Iran, and warned Oman against attempting to control the waterway.

During a cabinet meeting, he said that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and that “Oman will behave like everyone else, otherwise we will have to destroy them.”
