U.S. officials have announced that initial examinations indicate that Lindsey Graham, the Republican senator and a close ally of Donald Trump, died from an aortic rupture caused by atherosclerosis. So far, no signs of foul play or involvement by external factors have been found in connection with his death.
According to the medical examiner’s office, the preliminary examination found that the aortic rupture resulted from cardiovascular disease caused by atherosclerosis, a condition involving the hardening of arteries and the buildup of plaque along blood vessel walls. However, the medical examiner stated that the final death certificate will be issued after toxicology and microscopic tests are completed.
Two federal officials told Fox News on Sunday evening, 21 Saratan, that there is no evidence of a crime in the case. They said the FBI is also assisting police, in accordance with standard procedures for investigations involving the deaths of senior political figures.
FBI Director Kash Patel had previously stated that the agency had provided local authorities with all necessary resources and support to investigate the case. His remarks in recent days had fueled speculation about the circumstances surrounding the senator’s death.
The Telegraph reported that in cases involving the deaths of high-ranking officials, local police are responsible for the initial investigation, while the FBI works alongside local authorities to ensure there is no federal crime, criminal involvement, or security threat. Fox News also described the FBI’s involvement as part of the standard process in such cases.
Lindsey Graham’s office announced early Sunday, 21 Saratan, that the 71-year-old senator had died following a “brief and sudden illness.”
According to preliminary findings from the Washington medical examiner’s office, the cause of death was an aortic rupture linked to atherosclerosis. The New York Post also reported that the condition is more commonly seen among older men and occurs when a tear develops in the wall of the aorta, the body’s main artery.
Graham, a prominent figure in the Republican Party and a supporter of tougher U.S. policies toward the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia, had returned on 19 Saratan from a trip to Ukraine. During the visit, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and unveiled a revised version of a proposed new sanctions package targeting Russia.
If approved, the proposal would give the U.S. government authority to impose sanctions or new tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil or gas.
In recent years, Lindsey Graham repeatedly expressed support for regime change in Iran and voiced support for Iranian protesters during nationwide demonstrations. He also attended the “Global Day of Action” rally held in Munich on 25 Dalwa 1404, which was organized at the call of Reza Pahlavi.
