Following an acid attack on a female doctor, Mah Noor Nasir, in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, doctors across the province have launched a protest strike and suspended healthcare services.
The doctors stated that they will continue their strike until legislation is enacted to ensure the safety of medical professionals in hospitals and concrete measures are implemented to protect them.
On Saturday, an individual threw acid on Dr. Mah Noor Nasir at the government-run Civil Hospital in Quetta. As a result of the attack, the doctor’s face sustained severe burns. The assailant was later killed in a confrontation with police.
Dr. Hafeezullah Mandokhail, a leader of the Young Doctors Association of Balochistan, said that doctors have begun a province-wide protest strike in hospitals and are demanding a safe working environment for healthcare professionals.
