Summary

The Deputy Spokesperson for Publications at the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture, Mohajer Farahi, has said, referring to recent Taliban claims regarding attacks in Pakistan, that individuals and groups who disrupt Afghanistan’s security are considered legitimate targets for the Taliban, wherever they may be located.

On Friday (29 Ghowrgholi/Jawza), Farahi wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account that those he described as “sāʿyān bil-fasād wa bāghi” (agitators of corruption and rebels) will be targeted by the Taliban’s security and defense forces in any location where they are found.

He added that the Taliban’s security and defense forces, “with the help of Almighty God,” will thwart any attempt to obstruct Afghanistan’s progress, economic reconstruction, and social stability.

Farahi’s remarks come as the Taliban Ministry of Defense announced that on Thursday night it conducted airstrikes in parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting facilities allegedly linked to ISIS.

According to the ministry, attack plans against Afghanistan were being developed at these sites, and in the past as well, some deadly attacks were reportedly organized from these same areas. The ministry claimed that important and intended targets were struck in the operation.

On the other hand, Pakistani officials, responding to these claims, said they had shot down a Taliban drone in border areas and rejected the Taliban’s assertions regarding the strikes.

The conflicting claims from both sides have not yet been independently verified, but these developments have raised concerns about escalating security tensions and a deterioration in relations between the Taliban and Pakistan.
