Glamorgan Cricket Club has announced that Fazalhaq Farooqi, the Afghanistan national team’s fast bowler, has left the Vitality Blast competition at the request of the Afghanistan Cricket Board and is returning to Kabul.
In a statement released on Thursday, the club said that Farooqi had been called up for national duties and would depart from the Glamorgan squad after playing only two matches. Glamorgan also expressed its respect for the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s decision and wished the player success in his upcoming national assignments.
Farooqi delivered an impressive performance during his brief stint in the competition. In his first match, he claimed four wickets and finished with a total of six wickets across two games.
The left-arm pacer also became the first Afghan cricketer to represent Glamorgan as an overseas player, a milestone that received widespread attention among Afghanistan’s cricket fans.
Despite the official announcement of his departure, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has not yet provided a specific reason for recalling him. The decision comes as the Afghanistan national team prepares for upcoming international fixtures, including matches against India.
In recent years, Fazalhaq Farooqi has become one of the key players of Afghanistan’s national team and has enjoyed successful appearances in major international tournaments and prominent franchise leagues.
Glamorgan Cricket Club has not yet released details regarding a replacement for Fazalhaq Farooqi.
