Spain’s national football team delivered a dominant and near-flawless performance in their second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Saudi Arabia 4–0 to claim their first victory of the tournament. Following a draw against Cape Verde in their opening game, Spain produced a markedly improved display and secured three valuable points.
The opening goal came in the 10th minute, when young star Lamine Yamal broke the deadlock with a precise finish, giving Spain an early lead and setting the tone for their complete dominance throughout the match.
Mikel Oyarzabal, who had failed to meet expectations in Spain’s first match, showed a completely different level of performance in this game. He doubled the lead in the 34th minute with a goal from a corner kick, extending Spain’s advantage.
Just three minutes later, Oyarzabal struck again. This time, the goal came after a well-coordinated team move involving a series of quick passes, making it 3–0 before halftime and leaving Saudi Arabia with an even more difficult task.
Spain began the second half in attacking fashion and scored a fourth goal early in the period. Marc Cucurella’s shot deflected off Saudi defender Hassan Al-Tambakti and went into the net, officially recorded as an own goal.
After extending their lead to four goals, Luis de la Fuente’s side continued to create several dangerous chances but eventually reduced the intensity, comfortably seeing out the match with a 4–0 victory.
With this win, Spain moved onto four points and improved their position in the Group H standings. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, remains on just one point after two matches and faces a difficult challenge in its bid to reach the knockout stage.
