Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Afghanistan national cricket team fast bowler Shapoor Zadran, offering his condolences and describing him as an important figure in the development of Afghan cricket.
In a post on his X account, Jay Shah wrote that Shapoor Zadran’s passing was deeply painful. He stated that Shapoor played a significant role in Afghanistan’s journey on the international cricket stage and in the remarkable growth of the sport in the country. He added that Shapoor’s name would remain forever etched in the history of Afghan cricket.
Referring to the 2015 Cricket World Cup, the ICC chairman said that Shapoor Zadran would be particularly remembered for his match-winning performance against Scotland — a game that secured Afghanistan’s first-ever historic victory in a Cricket World Cup.
In his message, Jay Shah extended his condolences to Shapoor Zadran’s family, friends, the Afghan cricket community, and fans of the sport. He offered his heartfelt sympathies and prayed for eternal peace for the late cricketer’s soul.
