The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) stated in its latest report that July 2026 was the deadliest month for Pakistan, with casualties among security forces reaching their highest level since January 2023.
According to the report, at least 606 people were killed in July as a result of terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations. The casualties included 112 security personnel, 401 militants, 74 civilians, and 19 members of peace committees.
The institute said that the deaths of 112 security personnel represented the highest monthly figure recorded since 2023 and the second-highest level in the past decade. It added that security force casualties increased by 195 percent compared to June.
The report further stated that 401 militants were also killed during July, marking the highest number of militant fatalities recorded in a single month over the past ten years.
According to PICSS data, at least eight suicide attacks were recorded during the same period, five of which were carried out using vehicle-borne explosives. The organization noted that this was also the highest monthly number of suicide attacks recorded in the past decade.
The report’s findings indicate that the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan has deteriorated more significantly compared to other parts of Pakistan, with the majority of attacks concentrated in these two provinces.
According to the institute’s overall assessment, more than 2,700 people have been killed in terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations during the first seven months of 2026, including approximately 1,850 militants.
