Summary

Former Pakistani Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, responding to the explosions that occurred in Peshawar and Swat on the same day, said that mere condemnatory statements and official announcements are not sufficient to eliminate terrorism.

In a late Sunday post (August 2) on his X account, Sherpao expressed deep concern over both incidents, saying that the recent events indicate that the threat of terrorism has intensified and that people are facing severe fear and insecurity.

According to him, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in particular continue to face persistent threats of insecurity and terrorist attacks. He warned that if immediate, effective, and decisive measures are not taken to address the situation, the consequences could become even more devastating.

Sherpao emphasized that condemnations and official statements alone are not enough to prevent terrorism; rather, practical and serious actions are required.

It is worth noting that on Sunday, an explosion first targeted a police vehicle near Pir Zakori Bridge on GT Road in Peshawar, injuring two police officers. Later, a suicide attack took place during a gathering near a police facility in Kabal Chowk, Swat, killing at least 15 people, including five police officers, and injuring dozens of others.

In recent weeks, concerns over the security situation have increased due to a rise in militant attacks and instability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
