Sofia Sarwari, an Afghan athlete residing in Germany, has secured the championship title at the “Rising Star Cup” in jiu-jitsu, held in Paris.
Sarwari competed in the tournament on Saturday, 16 Jawza, delivering an outstanding performance in which she defeated both of her opponents via submission, earning first place in the competition.
This edition of the “Rising Star Cup” was held in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where Sarwari claimed the gold medal after two consecutive victories.
Following her triumph, she, as in previous competitions, raised the Afghan flag during the medal ceremony an act that has consistently been part of her participation in international events.
Now 12 years old and living with her family in Germany, Sarwari has repeatedly stated her ambition to showcase the talent and potential of Afghan girls through her sporting achievements.
The young athlete had previously won a gold medal at the World League Jiu-Jitsu competitions in Frankfurt with four consecutive victories and also secured a championship belt in the absolute division.
She also earned four gold medals in the children’s and youth categories at the United States Grappling Federation competition held in Saarbrücken in May 2026.
Despite her young age, Sarwari has participated in numerous national and international competitions across Germany and other European countries, consistently achieving championship titles successes that have established her as one of the emerging figures in combat sports among Afghan athletes.
