Climbers from various teams in Balkh province successfully ascended the highest peak in Charkent district of the province during a joint sports program. A total of 30 climbers participated in the program and managed to reach the summit of “Kafir Qala.”
According to the Balkh Mountaineering Federation, the height of this mountain reaches 2,700 meters. The ascent was conducted under the supervision of Mo’men Sarwari, head of the Balkh Mountaineering Federation, and included several veteran athletes, coaches, and talented climbers from the province.
The Balkh Mountaineering Federation stated that the main goal of this program was to assess physical fitness, evaluate technical skills, endurance, team discipline, and the capacity of young climbers to join the selected team of Balkh province.
According to the federation officials, athletes who perform well in this program will, in the future, represent Balkh province in the national mountaineering team of Afghanistan in the upcoming nationwide competitions, which are scheduled to be held soon in Nuristan province.
