Amid rising tensions and military clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan, another Taliban official has traveled to India for formal meetings a move that highlights the growing engagement between Kabul and New Delhi, Pakistan’s long-time rival.
Attaullah Omari, the Taliban’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, 16 Saratan 1405, leading an official delegation. Upon his arrival in India, he was received by Anand Prakash, Deputy Secretary at India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the official responsible for Afghanistan policy.
Attaullah Omari is the fourth Taliban minister to visit India as part of official engagements. Before him, the Taliban’s ministers of foreign affairs, public health, and industry and commerce had also traveled to New Delhi, where they held meetings with Indian officials and discussed expanding bilateral cooperation.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, also confirmed the Taliban agriculture minister’s visit, stating that New Delhi looks forward to constructive discussions with Kabul on issues of mutual interest.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Agriculture has stated that the purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of agriculture, irrigation, and livestock development. The visit comes at a time when relations between the Taliban and Pakistan have faced increasing disputes and security tensions in recent months.
