Sources in Badakhshan Province say that the Taliban intelligence agency has detained an Uzbek cultural activist in the province.
Speaking to the media on Monday, 22 June, sources said that the activist was arrested by Taliban intelligence forces three days ago.
The sources identified the activist as Massed Teymur and stated that his family has not yet been allowed to visit him.
According to the sources, Taliban intelligence detained Teymur because of his cultural activities and his posts on Facebook.
The sources added that most of Teymur’s online activities were related to Uzbek language and culture. In recent days, he had also published a post expressing support for the protests in Herat.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, numerous civil society activists, cultural figures, women’s rights advocates, and campaigners for women’s education have been arrested and imprisoned by the group.
