The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation has said that during the current week, 344 Afghan citizens who had been detained in Pakistan for lacking legal residency documents have returned to Afghanistan after being released from prison.
According to the ministry, of these individuals, 232 entered the country through the Torkham crossing and the remaining 112 through Spin Boldak.
The ministry added that the returnees were registered and provided with initial assistance before being transferred to their respective areas of origin.
This comes as the arrest and deportation of undocumented Afghan migrants in Pakistan continues, with a large number of Afghans being returned to Afghanistan in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has called on Pakistan to halt the arrest and forced deportation of Afghan asylum seekers and to uphold its international obligations regarding refugees.
