Local sources in Kapisa province say that Hashmatullah, a former officer of the Afghan National Army and a platoon commander in the 4th Battalion of the “Sailab” Corps, has died after several days in detention, and his body was found in the central hospital of the province.
According to the sources, Hashmatullah was arrested four days ago by Taliban forces from the Abidkhel area of Jabal al-Saraj district. The sources add that he was subsequently transferred to an unknown location after his arrest, and his family had no information about his condition or place of detention during this period.
Local sources have also said that the body of the former military officer was discovered on Sunday evening at the central hospital of Kapisa province. They report that signs of injuries were visible on his body; however, the exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed or announced.
This incident comes amid reports in recent years of the arrest, disappearance, and death of a number of former Afghan security personnel, as raised by families and human rights organizations. These reports have consistently raised concerns regarding the security and legal situation of some former members of the security forces.
The Taliban have previously repeatedly stated that a general amnesty has been declared and that no retaliatory action is being taken against former government forces. However, human rights organizations have called for independent and transparent investigations into reports concerning the detention and deaths of former military personnel.
As of the time of publication, Taliban authorities have not issued an official statement regarding Hashmatullah’s death or the details of the incident.
