In Kabul, members of the Taliban and a number of religious scholars held a memorial ceremony for the killing of Pakistani scholar Sheikh Muhammad Idrees. At the ceremony, they expressed sorrow over his death and described the incident as a worrying act against religious scholars.
The participants called on Pakistani authorities to take serious measures to ensure the safety of scholars and to implement practical steps to prevent such incidents. According to them, religious figures must be protected from violence and threats.
Sheikh Muhammad Idrees, who was a teacher at Darul Uloom Haqqania and had close ties with Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, was killed by unidentified armed men in the Charsadda area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
