The Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that, in order to regulate and facilitate urban transport services, the movement of “Tunis” type vehicles and privately plated cars has been suspended on 16 transport routes in Kabul city.
On Saturday (19th of Sawr), the ministry issued a statement saying that these routes include Dasht-e Barchi, Mirwais Maidan, Charrah-i Qambar, Pul-e Sookhteh, the University area, and several other urban routes.
According to the ministry, buses, taxis, and Mercedes vehicles will provide transport services to people along these routes from now on.
Meanwhile, residents of western Kabul have reported that the movement of Tunis-type vehicles on the Dasht-e Barchi routes has been suspended for about two weeks, creating widespread problems for people’s daily commutes.
According to some unverified reports, around 1,200 Tunis-type vehicles operated on the Dasht-e Barchi routes, and with their suspension, thousands of families have lost their source of income.
Dasht-e Barchi, in western Kabul, is considered one of the most densely populated areas of the Afghan capital, and Tunis vehicle drivers have provided transport services on the main and secondary roads of this area for years.
