The United States Embassy in Kuwait has resumed its operations following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran and the end of military hostilities between the two countries.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is on a regional tour, personally attended a ceremony on Wednesday, 3 Saratan, marking the raising of the U.S. flag over the embassy building in Kuwait City.
In a post on the social media platform X, Rubio wrote: “The flag of the United States, a symbol of freedom, solidarity, and liberation, has once again been proudly raised over Kuwait City.”
The Secretary of State also emphasized that Kuwait is considered an important and valuable partner of the United States in ensuring regional security and stability. He added that Washington seeks to expand cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations with Kuwait across all areas.
The U.S. embassy in Kuwait had suspended its operations in March following Iranian missile and drone attacks. At that time, the U.S. State Department had urged its citizens to leave Kuwaiti territory.
Marco Rubio arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday as part of his first regional tour following the end of the war and the signing of the memorandum between the United States and Iran. He visited Kuwait today and is scheduled to travel to Bahrain next.
During the conflict between Iran and the United States, U.S. military bases in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain were repeatedly targeted by Iranian missile and drone strikes. Reports indicate that these attacks resulted in both casualties and material damage.
