The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has announced that the reconstruction of the water canal, which is 5.33 kilometers long, is underway in the Sar-e pol province.

Upon completion of this project, approximately 7,000 people will gain access to water.

According to the organization, this canal is being rebuilt in the “Bazaar Kohna” area of Sirl province and is part of efforts to improve the water infrastructure in the region.

FAO further added that the canal will facilitate irrigation for about 304 hectares of agricultural land and could play a significant role in strengthening agricultural production.

The organization had previously announced that by 2025, it plans to create around 10 small water dams, known as “Jakdam,” in various locations. These structures are effective in controlling floods and replenishing groundwater sources.

Meanwhile, Taliban officials have stated that following recent rainfall, significant amounts of water have filled many of the dams in Afghanistan, which could have an impact on the country’s water resources and agricultural situation.
