The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee organized a meeting in Kabul on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, with the participation of several Taliban officials, media representatives, and journalists.
Some journalists attending the meeting said that a number of female journalists were also present, but they were seated behind a screen, separate from the male journalists.
Babrak Ehsas, who attended the meeting, stated that a curtain had been drawn between the women’s and men’s sections, and the female journalists were positioned behind that curtain.
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee reported that Hayatullah Mohajer Farahi, Khabib Ghaffran, and Abdul Mateen Qana participated in the meeting. Additionally, officials from several media outlets, including Tolo News, Ariana News, TV One, Pajhwok News Agency, Key Group, Khama Press, Radio Begum, and Shamshad Radio and TV, also attended.
The organization has published the names of many male participants but has not specifically named any female journalists.
Since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, extensive restrictions have been imposed on the work of female journalists. Among these restrictions is the requirement to wear a black mask while appearing on television programs.
