The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has announced the arrest of an individual who claimed “prophethood” in the Qadis district of Badghis province.
In a statement released today (Monday, 24th of Hamal), the ministry reported the arrest of this individual.
The Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice stated that this person claimed to have heard “divine inspiration and a heavenly call,” which led him to declare himself a prophet.
The ministry further mentioned that his mental and physical health is normal, and he does not suffer from any illness.
Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, said that the individual has been “handed over to judicial authorities for legal punishment.”
The Ministry has not disclosed the identity of this person, but Afghanistan’s national television, now under Taliban control, reported that the individual is named “Ghiyasuddin.”
Social media users have also mentioned that “Ghiyasuddin” posted a video in which he claimed to be a prophet, but it is believed that he may have suffered from mental health issues due to economic pressures and difficult living conditions.
