A recent report by the U.S. Congressional Research Service shows that the United States Air Force recorded 42 fighter jets, support aircraft, and drones as either lost or damaged during the war with Iran. The report, which was prepared based on information released by the Pentagon, U.S. Central Command, and media sources, has sparked widespread debate in American political and military circles.
According to the report, the recorded losses include four F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets, one fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighter jet, one A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft, and seven KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft.
The report also mentions the damage or destruction of one E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft, two MC-130J Commando II special operations aircraft, one combat search-and-rescue helicopter, and 25 drones. These drones include 24 MQ-9 Reapers and one MQ-4C Triton.
The report states that the total damage is estimated to be worth billions of dollars, and that the cost of the damaged or destroyed equipment alone could reach around $2.6 billion. At the same time, some U.S. officials have warned that the actual figure may be even higher.
The Congressional Research Service emphasized that these figures were compiled based on publicly available information and existing reports, and that they may change or be revised because some military information remains classified.
Political and military analysts say the publication of this report could increase pressure on the U.S. government regarding the continuation of its military policies in the region, especially at a time when criticism in Washington over the costs and consequences of war is growing.
