This military aircraft, which crashed in Iran, is known as the F-15E Strike Eagle. It was designed by the United States for two-person crew and is capable of performing both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.
The F-15E is a new version of the F-15 family. Unlike earlier models that were solely designed for air combat, this model is considered a multirole fighter aircraft. The U.S. Air Force has stated that this aircraft is designed to carry out both air-to-air and air-to-ground operations simultaneously, and to perform missions at low altitudes, during the night, and in all weather conditions.
One of the key features of this aircraft is that it has two crew members. The pilot sits in the front cockpit, while the weapons systems officer sits in the rear cockpit. This design allows one crew member to focus on flying and air combat, while the other can simultaneously handle target acquisition, radar management, and weapon operations. Today’s report also mentioned the rescue of one crew member, with efforts still underway to locate the other.
The U.S. Air Force, in its introduction of this aircraft, noted that the F-15E was designed for missions that require long ranges, to destroy enemy ground bases and fortifications, and then safely exit the battlefield. Simply put, this fighter aircraft is not only designed for combat with other aircraft, but also for precise strikes on ground targets.
