The United States government released the “2026 National Counterterrorism Strategy” on Wednesday. This document, presented by the administration of Donald Trump, focuses on major global security threats, but Afghanistan is not mentioned by name.
According to the strategy, drug trafficking cartels in Latin America, far-left extremist groups, and Islamist extremist groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS are considered significant threats to the United States.
The document emphasizes that the U.S., in cooperation with its allies, will strengthen the fight against these groups, but the situation in Afghanistan and threats related to the country are not included in this new strategy.
