The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration have increased humanitarian needs in eastern Afghanistan.

In its latest report, published on Wednesday, April 9, OCHA stated that at least 7 people have been killed and 79 others injured in recent attacks in Kunar province.

According to the report, several mortar shells hit the Dangam district between April 19 and 21, resulting in the destruction of a school, a health center, and a telecommunications site.

Additionally, artillery attacks on Asadabad also targeted the Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan University.

OCHA added that 19 health centers in the eastern region of the country are either closed or operating with limited capacity, affecting access to healthcare services for around 78,000 people.

The agency noted that despite recent talks between Taliban and Pakistani delegations in China, tensions continue to cast a shadow over the lives of civilians.
