The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum says that the contract for the first block of the Namaksar salt mine in Ghoryan district of Herat province has been signed with a private company for a period of 15 years, with an investment of 315.6 million Afghanis.

According to information provided by the ministry, the first block of the mine covers an area of 10.24114 square kilometers, and under the agreement, the company will be responsible for the extraction and processing operations of the mine.

Hedayatullah Badri, the Taliban’s Minister of Mines and Petroleum, said during the signing ceremony that, under the contract, the company will pay a royalty of 1,500 Afghanis for each tonne of salt extracted and will conduct its operations in accordance with the mining law, the contract, and relevant procedures.

The ministry stated that, in addition to paying royalties, the company will also invest 5 million Afghanis in various areas of social services.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum added that the implementation of this project will create employment opportunities for a large number of people, both directly and indirectly.
