Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Afghanistan, condemned the attack on civilians in Herat and called for an independent investigation into the incident and the punishment of those responsible.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “The brutal attack by armed individuals against civilians in the Injil district of Herat province, which led to the deaths and injuries of several non-combatants, appears to follow a recurring pattern. It must not only be condemned, but also independently investigated, and those responsible should be brought to justice.”
