Summary

Kabul Municipality says that on the Day of Arafah and during the three days of Eid al-Adha, approximately 4,500 tons of waste were collected from different parts of the city and transported to the Gazak area using special vehicles.

In a statement released on Sunday (June 1), the municipality said that sanitation workers carried out a large-scale cleaning campaign across various districts of Kabul from May 26 to May 29.

The municipality urged residents to actively cooperate in maintaining the city’s cleanliness, beauty, and social order by disposing of waste in designated locations.

The statement added that during the Eid holidays, especially Eid al-Adha, many people leave animal remains from sacrifices and other waste in inappropriate places, which contributes to urban environmental pollution.

Meanwhile, international organizations have recently expressed concerns about Afghanistan’s urban environment and waste management, warning that the situation could worsen due to limited resources and facilities.

Environmental experts also consider waste management to be one of the biggest challenges facing Afghanistan’s cities. They say that, in addition to existing problems, weak urban service management has further deepened the issue.
