Summary

On the occasion of International Health Workers’ Day, the European Union announced that it will continue to support the education, professional training, and capacity building of health workers in Afghanistan. The EU emphasized that women are an important part of Afghanistan’s health workforce and, in addition to saving lives, play a key role in shaping the country’s future.

May 12, which coincides with 22 Ghway, is celebrated every year worldwide as International Health Workers’ Day. This day is dedicated to recognizing the efforts of health workers who care for patients and maintain public health under difficult conditions.

On its official page, the European Union called health workers “unforgettable heroes” and wrote: “Women are an important part of the health workforce, they save lives, and they build the country’s future.”

The EU statement also noted that the organization supports programs for training and empowering health workers to improve the quality of healthcare services for all people.

On the other hand, health workers in Afghanistan face shortages of equipment and facilities, low salaries, heavy workloads, and extensive restrictions. Additionally, the Taliban’s restrictions on women’s education and the health sector have caused the country’s healthcare system to face serious challenges.
