Zabihullah Jalali, the Taliban’s third political head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote on the social media platform X on Thursday, May 8, that based on historical, geographical, and economic logic, no regional connectivity project can be implemented or sustainable without Afghanistan’s presence. He emphasized that only a comprehensive and forward-looking economic framework can create the conditions for shared prosperity in the region.
According to him, due to its geographical location, Afghanistan has the capacity to play an important role in linking Central Asia and South Asia.
These statements come as the Taliban administration has consistently emphasized Afghanistan’s position as a regional crossroads. However, the realization of major transit projects still depends on factors such as political stability, establishing balanced relations with neighboring countries, and gaining the trust of the international community issues that, following the recent political changes in Afghanistan, continue to be of concern and discussion among regional institutions.
