Local Taliban authorities in Badakhshan province say that two people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the killing of Leilma, the wife of Abdul Salam Maftoon, a local singer in the province.
Masoodullah Haqqani, the Taliban police commander in Ishkashim district, stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing and the detained individuals are under review.
He added that, based on preliminary information, the motive for this murder is likely related to “family matters.”
According to the Taliban police commander in Ishkashim, the attacker used a “Cherai rifle” in the assault.
Leilma was attacked and killed on Thursday morning, 17th of Sawr, while she was going from her home to her workplace in the center of Ishkashim district.
She was an entrepreneur and the owner of a women-only restaurant in the center of Ishkashim district, Badakhshan province.
