The Pakistan national cricket team suffered a 103-run defeat to England in the first Test of the series.
The match was played at the Leeds Stadium in England. England declared their second innings at 409 runs, leaving Pakistan with a challenging target to chase.
Pakistan struggled from the outset in their second innings. Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed without scoring, while Azan Awais made 9, Abdullah Shafique 15, Saud Shakeel 14, and captain Salman Ali Agha just 4 runs. Shan Masood scored 29 and Mohammad Rizwan made 41, but their efforts were not enough to prevent defeat.
Pakistan were bowled out for just 135 runs in the 38th over, giving England a 103-run victory.
For England, Ollie Robinson, Jofra Archer, and Josh Tong each took three Pakistani wickets. With the win, England took a 1–0 lead in the three-match Test series.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha admitted after the match that England had outperformed Pakistan in every aspect of the game. He said Pakistan had been unable to maintain a consistent level of performance.
The second Test between Pakistan and England will be played at Lord’s on August 27, while the third match will take place in Birmingham on September 9.
